A class action lawsuit has been launched against Microsoft, for charging users who wish to downgrade from Windows Vista to Windows XP. I am no legal expert, but the lawsuit does not make any sense to me.
If you buy a new computer and the manufacturer is not offering Windows XP as an option, you can either buy a license of XP and install it yourself, or you can pay for a downgrade license to Windows XP. I initially assumed that this was an additional charge by the computer manufacturers, but I now understand that Microsoft are selling XP Pro as a downgrade for around $60.00 – significantly cheaper than purchasing it outright.
The question is, why should Microsoft give away Windows XP for free, just because you already purchased Windows Vista? To me, that makes no sense. Maybe there is more to this suit than is being reported?
