“How do I get more traffic to my website?” is one of the most common questions we are asked.
Stick with me.
Fact: it used to be so much easier.
At risk of sounding like I’m as old as I am, back in the day, getting people to your website was easy.
You created some lead bait, made some noise, people came flocking to see what it was about, and you could sit back and watch your server struggle under the strain.
Today every website is doing just that. The lead bait and noise bit – not being swamped by new visitors.
And every website, our own included, has some sort of clever/funny/cool opt-in designed to get your email address.
Unless you have something that is genuinely spectacular to offer, this sort of thing just doesn’t work any more.
Why? Because over-exposure instils an overload defence system. We just don’t see them any more.
One of the few things that still works reliably is advertising. For example on Google AdWords or Facebook.
Assuming you can target your audience through those platforms.
And assuming you know what you’re doing.
And assuming you have some cash to burn through.
Let’s be practical. You only really have three options to choose from.
Option 1 – pay for new traffic.
This is good because it’s more or less instant.
It’s not so good because you have to pay for it. And there’s a pretty high chance you’ll waste some money along the way.
Option 2 – lead bait.
The problem? It’s so hard to make something that lots of the right people will actually want. And to make it stand out.
Download our FREE White Paper just isn’t going to work any more.
And think about it: how often do you opt-in to one of those things nowadays?

Option 3 – polish what you already have and make it gleam.
This is a surprisingly under-used strategy.
And guess what? It really works.
Go into your New Google Search Console, click on Search Analytics, scroll down to the bottom of the screen and click on Download.
Once you’ve done that, open the file in Excel and filter on (for example) keywords showing an average position between 4 and 9.
Why? Because it doesn’t take too much work to get from position 6 to position 4. Going from 56 to anywhere on the first page tends to be a whole lot trickier,.
So these are your very easiest of all low hanging fruit.
A few little tweaks of the right pages on your website can go a long way.
Of course, there’s so much more that you can do to get more traffic from Google.
And a lot of it is easy, quick and effective.
But this is one of the quickest and easiest.
But here’s the important bit:
Don’t leave this on your “mean to do it one-day” list – setting aside even just five minutes right now can make a difference.
In fact, off the top of my head, I can’t think of a quicker and easier way to get more free traffic from Google.
